other.” It might have been a part of a song, but we cannot deny the truth in it.
Renate Stumpf and Louis Demetriades have had that saying branded into their love story. Their love all started back in Germany in 1959 when Louis was a soldier at a military base and Renate was a cook who prepares the meals.

They were both 18 years old, and their proximity to each other pushed them together but the love that started was from each other’s efforts. Shortly after, the two fell in love and decided to get married.

Everything was going according to plan, and so they decided to get settled and start a family in the United States. There they had 3 children which they both dearly loved. Yet marriages aren’t always perfect and problems will always arise.

This was what ruined their relationship, including the fact that Renate was still struggling to speak proper English at that time. After 13 years of their relationship, they decided to get divorced.

Shortly after their papers were finalized, each of them had decided to move on and found another love. They got married to different people and when their spouses died, they managed to get in touch with each other again.

Through the help of social media, they managed to track each other and reconnect. Renate works at Walmart by then, and Louis admired her for that.

They both actively kept in touch and apparently, they found out they still love each other.

After 43 years since they broke up, they slowly rebuilt their relationship, and now with a proposal! On the same Walmart branch that Renate works at, Louis drove 300 miles to present her with a sign, “Will you marry me?”

It was a huge surprise for Renate and it was on the same day as Valentine’s Day. Now it is a very special day for them, a fresh start for them both.

Everyone around them couldn’t help but feel warm inside and send their congratulations to the couple. It is a sweet, sweet story to learn that a love like this still exists somewhere in this world.
